How to Keep Snakes from Entering Your Home

snake home protection

You probably hate snakes, and the thought of them in your home is unpleasant. Here are some of the best ways to protect your home from snakes.

The title of this blog alone is enough to strike fear in the hearts of countless children, women, and men throughout the world. You probably hate snakes, and the thought of them in your home is unpleasant (or horrifying, depending on what camp you’re in). Here are some of the best ways to protect your home from snakes.

Prevent Their Entrance

Just like with anything, the best way to stop snakes from being in your home is to stop them from being able to enter! Here are some ways to protect your home in advance:

  • Remove spots for snakes to hide outside of your home like weeds, overgrown vegetarian, mounds of debris or yard trash, and anything else that would be appealing
  • Keep piles of firewood to keep you warm during the winter off of the ground, as these make excellent hiding or nesting spots for snakes
  • Don’t use birdseed or birdbaths outside of your home, as these attract many different potential pests
  • Another easy way to protect your home is by sealing any small crevices or cracks in the foundation of your house that could be tempting to rodents or snakes
  • If you are environmentally friendly and use compost, make sure that it is in a sealed container or far away from your home

What Do You Do Once They’re There?

Once you have done the job of eliminating tempting habitats and food supplies for a snake, use a natural repellant to finish the process. Use a mixture of natural cinnamon and clove oils to scare off snakes before they get into your home. If snakes do enter your home, the best thing to do is call a professional at Shumaker’s Animal Control to get rid of the problem. A professional can also give you additional tips and advice for keeping them from entering again.
