How To Keep Foxes Off Your Property

While they might be cute to observe from a distance, the best places to find foxes are far away from your home, as the animals can cause some serious trouble if they make their way onto your property.

While they certainly aren’t considered a danger to humans, they can pose threats to pets and other animals, and are known to destroy plants and gardens if left to their own devices.

However, there are a few steps that homeowners can take to ensure that no foxes will be stopping by any time soon.

Feed Your Pets Indoors

First, always try to feed pets indoors, store the pet food indoors and avoid leaving pet food residue outside as much as possible.

With a pet such as a dog, it can be easiest to feed them outside, but the short-term convenience could lead to long-term effects when it comes to foxes.

Foxes rely on their sense of smell to lead them to food and the enticing smells of dog or cat food allure foxes like a five-star restaurant.

It can be fine to feed your pets outdoors as it’s easiest for cleanliness, but make sure to clean up anything that gets left behind so that foxes aren’t tempted to take up shop outside your home.

Secure Garden Areas

Next, secure any garden areas or fruit and vegetable plants or trees. Foxes are omnivores and they love to eat berries or other fruits, which is why they have a reputation for wrecking gardens.

In order to avoid that being your fate, put up fences or other deterrents around your plots and even consider spraying anti-fox chemicals to get the message across.

Another thing to consider is that if you have a fruit free, for example, you should clean up all the fruit which falls from it, as foxes will enjoy a quick little snack from the fallen fruit and keep coming back for more if they can.

Setup Flashing Lights

If neither of those steps work to keep foxes away, consider setting up some flashing lights or sprinklers which could startle the foxes and keep them from coming back.

Bright LEDs and jets of water are enough to make your home seem inhospitable, and foxes are hard-wired to avoid confrontation.

Also consider keeping your trash bags indoors as well if the problem subsists.
